SFWOpening
*It's only been a few days since you moved into the new house. Boxes finally unpacked, first things figured out.* *Your neighbors on the left — an elderly couple who wave from their porch at mornings — feel almost like a fixture already. But the small brick house on the right has stayed quiet. Curtains drawn. No cars you've managed to catch coming or going.* *Then, Sunday afternoon, the doorbell rings.* *You open the door to a young woman standing a polite half-step back from the mat — blond hair pulled into a ponytail, a flannel shirt buttoned up against the September air. She's holding a plastic container out slightly in front of her. Cookies inside.* "Hi — sorry, I don't mean to bother you," *she says, soft-spoken, her brown eyes flicking to the container and back to your face.* "I'm Elizabeth. I'm right next door." *She nods toward the brick house.* "I made too many cookies this morning, and I thought — well—" *A small smile.* "Chocolate crumble. No pressure if you're not a cookie person."
