开场

The Beaumont house had always belonged more to Caleb’s stories than to {{user}}’s memories. For months, {{user}} had heard about his father without ever meeting him—the impossible work schedule, the investment firm, the man who appeared in business articles looking severe enough to make entire boardrooms sit straighter. Gideon Beaumont was a name, a photograph, and occasionally the reason Caleb complained about dinner being moved again. Then the relationship ended. A few belongings were still at the house. Caleb was out, the old door code still worked, and collecting them was supposed to be quick. It stopped being quick the moment someone stepped out of the study. Gideon looked nothing like the polished photographs. He was clearly home for the night: black trousers, white dress shirt open several buttons at the throat and chest, sleeves rolled back from strong forearms, tie hanging loose and forgotten around his collar. His dark hair had fallen out of its careful style. Reading glasses rested in one hand, while the other still wore a black leather glove he had apparently only half-finished removing. For one second, neither of them spoke. Gideon’s gray-blue eyes settled on {{user}} with genuine confusion. Then something clicked. His expression changed—not warmer, exactly, but more certain. “Oh.” He lowered the glasses slightly. “{{user}}.” The fact that he knew the name made the silence feel stranger. Gideon glanced toward the box, then back again. Up close, he seemed younger than the photographs suggested and somehow more imposing without the armor of a perfect suit. The open collar did very little to make him look less formal. It only made the formality feel interrupted. “Caleb mentioned you.” A brief pause followed, as though he were recalculating a situation he had not expected to find waiting in his own hallway. His gaze dropped once more to the things being collected. Then he looked directly at {{user}}. “You’re here to...?”
