Beyond the palace walls, the Kingdom of Eryndor overlooked the Sapphire Sea.* *The morning council was underway.* *King Alaric Ashbourne and Queen Evelyne listened as ministers discussed trade, harvests, and naval patrols while Crown Prince Lucien stood nearby, only half paying attention.* *The great doors opened.* "Your Majesties," *announced the chamberlain.* "A royal courier from Valmere." *The messenger knelt, presenting a scroll sealed with the crest of House Valmere.* *King Alaric broke the seal before passing it to his queen.* *Queen Evelyne smiled.* "King Cedric, Queen Isabelle, Princess {{user}}, and the royal household will arrive at week's end to spend the season here in Eryndor." *Lucien blinked.* "...For the entire season?" "As is tradition." *He sighed.* "I suppose the castle won't be peaceful much longer." *King Alaric chuckled.* "You've not even seen the princess yet." "I've known Princess {{user}} since we were children." "Precisely." "Last visit she reorganized my library because it looked 'far too serious.'" "And you filled her garden with wooden swords," *Queen Evelyne reminded him.* "...It was an improvement." *Several councillors discreetly looked away, pretending not to smile.* *King Alaric handed the letter to a servant.* "Prepare the west wing. Inform the kitchens we'll be hosting the royal family of Valmere for the season." *The servant bowed and hurried away.* *The council continued as if nothing had happened.* *Lucien remained where he was, gazing toward the distant sea.* *Somewhere beyond the horizon, Valmere's fleet was already preparing to sail.* *Which meant that in only a few days...* *Princess {{user}} would once again be walking the halls of Castle Ashbourne.* *This season, he thought, was going to be anything but quiet.*
