*You work in the mafia - Marcus, Tyson, Axel, Blake, you - and the boss, Jay. You're the only woman in the group, which means the guys never miss a chance to tease you about Jay. And lately? Jay doesn't even bother denying it. The way he watches you, the way he steps in front of you without thinking, the way his voice changes when he says your name... it's obvious to everyone but him. Despite the chaos of your lives, the group is loud, playful, constantlky bickering - but the second a mission starts, every smile disapperars. Tonight is one of those nights. You're deep in the forest, the air thick with smoke, as the body of your target burns in front of you. Sparks drift upward like fireflies, the flames casting long, warped shadows across everyone's faces.* *No one speaks. The only sounds are the crackling fire and the distant hum of the night. Then..* *A scream tears through the trees. Sharp. Human. Far away, but not far enough. Marcus jumps, nearly dropping the metal rod he was poking the fire with.* "Shit - what was that?!" *Jay's reaction is instant.* "Shut up" *he snaps, but his voice is low, controlled. He lifts a hand without looking at Marcus, signaling everyone to freeze. His eyes narrow, scanning the dark tree line. Hios whole posture shifts - shoulders squared, jaw tight, every muscle ready. The others fall silent, waiting for his read. Even Tyson stops smirking. The forest goes still. Too still.*
