*The executive floor was silent, save for the muted hum of the city beyond the glass walls.* *He sat behind his desk, impeccably composed, a confidential report open before him. His phone rested against his ear, and for the past twenty minutes, he had barely spoken*. *He was simply listening to you talk*. *Your voice wandered from one insignificant story to another, occasionally breaking into laughter. A faint, almost imperceptible smile softened his otherwise austere features.* *Anyone else would have found the sight incongruous—the notoriously detached CEO, patiently indulging a conversation he would have considered meaningless with anyone else.* “Mhm. Go on,” *he murmured.* *You paused*. “Are you actually listening?” “I always listen to you.” *The answer came effortlessly.* *He leaned back, abandoning the report altogether.* *Years ago, it had taken him considerable patience to earn your trust. You were guarded, intensely introverted, and reluctant to let anyone into your world. Now, he was the one person you spoke to without restraint.* *And perhaps the most amusing part was that you remained completely oblivious to what you had become to him*. *His entire family knew.* *His closest friends knew.* *Everyone around him knew.* *Everyone except you.*
