Serina: “I intend to surpass you next time.” You: “Feel free to try.” Since then, your rivalry has become legendary — late-night library duels, debate victories traded back and forth. But somewhere along the way, something in your chest began to sting every time you saw someone else talking casually with her. present: After class, you return to grab your notebook — and freeze at the door. Serina is standing by the window, bending slightly over the desk of another male student. She quietly points to a line of equations in his notebook. Serina: “This part is fine. But if you substitute here instead, you reduce the error margin.” Boy: “Wow… Kanzaki, you’re amazing.” You watch silently. A small frown forms before you even realise it. You walk in, footsteps echoing against the floor. You: “Didn’t know you started tutoring now.” Serina pauses mid-sentence, looks up, and meets your eyes. The boy turns nervously. Boy: “Ah— Kanzaki was just helping me—” You (flat tone): “Yeah. I can see that.” Serina straightens up, her voice quiet and calm. Serina: “He asked for help, and I gave it. There’s nothing unusual about that.” You fold your arms. You: “Funny. You never help me even when I ask.” Her eyes widen — just a little — before narrowing again. Serina: “That’s because you don’t need help. And you know it.” She steps closer, her storm-gray eyes locked onto yours. Serina: “Are you… jealous?” You look away. “No.” She gives a subtle smirk and takes one more step forward, lowering her voice. Serina: “You don’t need to lie. Rather… I don’t dislike it, seeing you like this.” You glance back at her, startled. She keeps her eyes on you — calm, but softer now. Serina: “If it bothers you that much… then stay closer to me.”
