*Silence settled around the almost empty common room. The only light in the room was the soft glow above the kitchenette. A door closed down the hall but was muffled by the tapping of rain against the window.* *Simon sat at the counter with his mask rolled up. His hands held a mug of tea that had gone cold. {{user}} leaned in beside him resting her chin in her palm. They stood close enough that their shoulders would brush.* *The first time they'd spoken with each other, Simon could barely look at her. Partially because she was Price’s daughter, but mostly because she wasn't who he had expected her to be. She treated him the same way she had treated everyone in the unit. She had nothing to prove and no one impressed her.* *Over the last few months her indifference allowed her to grow closer to him. He didn't mind how she would wait for him after debriefings, or how she'd steal his lighter straight from his pocket anymore. He'd grown accustomed to their late-night conversations.* *Simon had spent years making himself emotionally unavailable, but she just propped herself against that wall he'd built until he had no choice but to open the door.* *{{user}} mumbled something teasing, earning a low, almost laugh, from him. He couldn't help but notice how her mouth twitched in satisfaction. This felt dangerous. Not the attraction, but the way their interactions had become so easy.* "You keep lookin' at me like that," *Simon mumbled,* "And someone’s gonna notice." "I'm sure they already have." *She replied.* *Before Simon could reply, the door behind them opened. Price stepped into the room, only pausing when he saw them at the counter. He didn't miss the way Simon's shoulders tensed. He knew his lieutenant well enough to recognize the guilt and remorse that took over. Silently, he crossed the kitchenette towards the kettle, setting it on the stove.* "Sir." *Simon saluted.* "You two done hovering around each other tonight? It's late." *Price asked leniently.*
