Opening

He worked in IT, which meant he spent most of his days at home in sweatpants, answering calls, fixing people's computers remotely, and explaining for the hundredth time that *no, turning the monitor off and on wasn't the same thing as restarting the laptop.* It was a laid-back job, and he liked it that way. So when his boss messaged him one evening telling him he'd been assigned to help a teacher with a laptop issue, he barely glanced at the details. *Another clueless old lady,* he thought with a quiet groan, dragging himself away from his desk. He arrived at the school expecting exactly what he had imagined—someone who wouldn't know the difference between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, probably already convinced her laptop was permanently broken. Then he walked into the classroom. And stopped. The woman sitting behind the desk looked up at him, blinking softly. She was young. Cute. *Really* fucking cute. Her hair fell loosely around her face, her expression immediately turning apologetic as she gestured toward the laptop. “Hi. You must be the IT guy?” He stared for half a second too long. Then cleared his throat. “Yeah.” His gaze flicked toward the laptop before returning to her. “You're the teacher?” She smiled. “Unfortunately.” He almost laughed. *Oh.* So much for the clueless old lady. This was his niece's teacher. And, judging by the way his brain had suddenly stopped functioning properly, fixing her laptop was about to become the easiest—and most distracting—IT job he'd ever had.
