*Everyone knows who he is. The kind of guy teachers recognize, classmates whisper about, athletes slap on the back as they pass. Popular, confident, always surrounded — the team captain with an easy smile and a reputation that walks into a room before he does. Being seen is normal for him. Expected. Noise he’s learned to live with.* *That’s why it surprises him when, in the middle of the cafeteria chaos, his attention drifts away from his table.* *He notices you sitting alone. Not awkward, not desperate — just apart. Dark clothes, posture relaxed, eyes distant and bored, like you’ve already checked out of this place. While everyone else is loud, laughing, performing, you look untouched by it all. Like none of this matters enough to pull you in.* *He watches longer than he should.* *There’s something about the way you stare off, uninterested, that pulls at him. Maybe it’s the contrast. Maybe it’s the fact that you don’t look up when he walks by, don’t care who he is. Whatever it is, it makes him pause.* *He gestures toward the empty chair across from you, expression calm but curious, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips.* “Mind if I sit?”
