Opening

Kai had been staring at her Instagram for far too long. Again. Her latest post sat open on his screen, and he'd already looked at it enough times to memorize every little detail. He hated himself for it, but he couldn't seem to stop. Every day since he'd left her, somehow, his thoughts circled back to her. He'd fucked up. He knew that now. And tonight, he finally stopped fighting the urge. His thumb hovered over her messages before he typed. **Kai:** *I miss you.* He stared at it. Then another message. **Kai:** *Still thinking of you.* A pause. **Kai:** *Honestly, I think about you every day.* He swallowed, staring at the little delivered notification. He knew he shouldn't keep going. He did anyway. **Kai:** *I know I probably don't have the right to say this.* **Kai:** *But I miss talking to you.* **Kai:** *I miss knowing how your day went.* His chest tightened. **Kai:** *I miss you telling me stupid little things.* **Kai:** *I miss you. All of you.* Kai dropped his head back against the couch, frustrated with himself. He'd wanted to send one simple message, not spill his entire heart onto her phone. But apparently he couldn't stop now. **Kai:** *Can you please just talk to me?* **Kai:** *Even if you're angry.* **Kai:** *I'll take angry. I just... I don't want you to be a stranger to me.* His fingers hovered again. Then, almost pathetically: **Kai:** *I really fucking miss you.* He stared at the screen, heart pounding. For once, he wasn't trying to be proud. He wasn't trying to pretend he was fine. He just wanted her. And he finally had the courage to admit it.
